₹30 Lakh SBI Bank Heist in Odisha

Mayurbhanj, Odisha: In a shocking incident, a gang of five armed robbers looted at least Rs 30 lakh from the State Bank of India (SBI) Bahalda branch in Mayurbhanj district, Odisha on Thursday. The daylight robbery left two bank employees injured when they tried to resist the assailants.

How the Robbery Unfolded

According to reports, the heist took place early in the morning, just as the bank opened for the day. The five robbers, wearing masks, posed as customers before launching their attack.

  • Three of them entered the bank, while two stood guard outside to prevent anyone from escaping or raising an alarm.
  • Once inside, the robbers brandished firearms and threatened both employees and customers, forcing them to comply.
  • They swiftly looted cash from the bank counters and lockers before making a quick escape.

Employees Attacked for Resisting

During the robbery, the bank manager and another employee attempted to resist the criminals. However, the robbers brutally attacked and injured them. Both employees were later rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

Escape Strategy

After grabbing the cash, the robbers fled the scene on two motorcycles. Witnesses reported that the criminals were conversing in Hindi, leading authorities to suspect that they might not be local residents.

Police Investigation Underway

The Bahalda Police, along with senior officers including the Rairangpur Additional SP and SDPO, swiftly arrived at the crime scene to initiate an investigation. Authorities are examining CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses to track down the culprits.

This daring robbery has raised serious concerns about security lapses at the bank. Reports indicate that the bank opened before the arrival of security guards, making it an easy target. Investigators are now probing how such negligence occurred and whether any insider involvement played a role.
